HSToday’s annual Threat-cast, headline

Today’s TAT is to share the annual, “threat-cast” from our friends at the prestigious publication, HSToday, Homeland Security Today Magazine.

I have the honor as serving as the VP of a highly specialized think/ do tank, called Narrative Strategies. Every year, our founder, Dr. Ajit Maan and I contribute our most prominent threat concerns to HSToday’s annual, threat-cast. This annual effort is to allow some of the nation’s most accomplished experts, to offer a handful of paragraphs regarding where we believe the US national security community must focus, especially in regard to domestic threats. All of today’s included threats are also part of the annual Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s, annual threat assessment, in a variety of forms.

Tuesday, 08 March 2022 08:46

“The threat landscape has expanded and evolved across cyberspace, critical infrastructure, biological threats, and more as a dedicated team of security professionals across various agencies and disciplines confronts new threat actors, worsening natural disasters, immigration challenges, global instability, threats to election security, drug and human trafficking, and more. As we move further into 2023, Homeland Security Today asked our editorial leaders and experts to share their thoughts on security challenges in the year ahead.”

While that some of the threats are better understood by professionals in certain fields, all of the contributing authors do a very good job of expressing their concerns, so that we may all understand their valuable insights.

There’s a lot packed into this year’s look at pressing threats and issues facing the US homeland. I encourage everyone to take a moment and read these slowly over a cup of coffee or tea and if you read them later in the day, you may wish an adult beverage. These professionals offer something far too rare in our nation these days, honest analysis without a political agenda. In my opinion, this is also how we should operate. Problem solving requires looking at the whole problem or threat, honestly and with all known facts.

Vice Admiral (ret) Sandra Stosz of the US Coast Guard

HSToday does an excellent job of maintaining the standard of honest, non-politically biased insight and should be congratulated. In fact, it’s how our nation is designed to behave. In today’s issue, one of the contributors I encourage all to take in very carefully is from Vice Admiral (ret) Sandra Stosz of the US Coast Guard. She highlights the diminishing role of a unified US identity, built on character. Without these diminishing attributes, there can be no national resilience, or rather our collective ability to act together to overcome any type of hardship. I could hardly agree more.

All-in-all, there are 14 contributing experts in this year’s threat-cast. I’m still pinching myself that I’m included each year. It’s a high honor, that I do my best to be worthy of. The magazine, its contributors and editorial staff work hard every day to keep our nation safe from all manner of threats. As for my worthiness, I’ll leave that to readers to decide. As for the other contributors, I have no doubt that they all embody the true American identity Adm (ret) Stosz talks about. Not only do they possess the character but they all, to a person, demonstrate it daily, with integrity and leadership. It’s a lesson we all can and should benefit from.

Before closing, I would encourage everyone with an interest in homeland security issues, to sign up for HSToday’s regular, free subscription. The magazine, updated daily online contains everything that is going on in Homeland Security, from contracts to expert insights on critical matters. This subscription is extremely valuable to local government and organizations of support. There is no comparable, open-source site available.

Please pour a cup of coffee or… and think on this year’s edition of our most pressing threats.

Bravo and thank you, to the contributors and HSToday.
