Every time I read one of your rant-filled screeds I feel like the little kid who gleefully mucked out the stalls in the horse barn. When asked why he was so happy, the kid replied, “With this much manure there has to be a pony in here somewhere.” So let’s see if I can find a pony in this latest installment of petty vitriol.

The general gist of this piece, as with so many of yours lately that I have read, is one of “Resistance” to the duly elected government of the United States. While I understand the thought behind this unfortunate word choice, a better and far more appropriate means of expressing this thought would be to use the acceptable phrases “petition the Government” for a “redress of grievances.” (Credible Source: U.S. Constitution, Amendment One) Using the word “Resistance” makes it sound more like advocating the “duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying the government of the United States” (Credible Source: 18 U.S. Code § 2385) rather than engaging in the peaceful pursuit of one’s First Amendment freedoms. It does not help your argument that these urban anarchists who are firebombing Tesla dealerships are also using this catchword. Another recurring theme in these articles is the dualistic dichotomy drawn between those who agree with you and those who respectfully disagree. Having a difference of opinion does not ipso facto make one un-American, dishonest, immoral or lacking in Patriotism. This level of Manichean-like dualism is more in keeping with rabidly vindictive and highly partisan ideologues rather than thoughtful and experienced analysts. Such ad hominem slanders only serve to make respectful dialogue and a thoughtful exchange of ideas more difficult.

The Progressive bogeyman of “White Christian Nationalism” continues to make its de rigueur appearance in these posts, the careless use of which shows an abysmal ignorance of classical Protestant theology present since the earliest days of the Reformation. The casual and often intentionally mischaracterized use of this ill-defined term (Credible Source: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/23780231221124492 ) is a useful tool for slandering conscientious Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox faithful who fervently believe that their religious faith should inform and guide their civic responsibilities. To the Progressive Left, such civic consciousness by Christians is anathema, (Credible Source: https://realclearcatholic.com/2022/07/25/a-catholic-perspective-on-christian-nationalism/) This blatant and intentional intellectual carelessness is such that even the signers of the 1620 Mayflower Compact (William Bradford, Miles Standish, et al) would be considered “White Christian Nationalists.” (Credible Source: Text of the Compact: https://pilgrimhall.org/mayflower_compact_text.htm )

Even more one-sided is the persistent insistence in these columns to trumpet the occasional acts of political violence by a few right-wing reactionaries while remaining conspicuously silent about the rampant acts of domestic terrorism fomented by radical Progressives, whether during the “mostly peaceful” ANTIFA/BLM protests during the 2020 “Summer of Love (Looting and Murder)” (Credible Sources: https://politifix.com/summer-of-love-looting-and-murder and https://www.policemag.com/patrol/article/15310543/after-action-reports-on-the-riots-of-2020) or the more recent nationwide arson and fire bombing attacks on Tesla dealerships by unhinged Woke Environmentalists and Progressive anarchists. (Credible Sources: https://countylocalnews.com/2025/03/11/seattle-tesla-firebombings-far-left-urges-violence-unchecked/

https://www.carscoops.com/2025/03/tesla-under-siege-as-multiple-evs-set-ablaze-and-vandalized-across-several-states-in-one-day/

https://abcnews.go.com/US/tesla-vehicles-vandalized-us-musk-began-white-house/story?id=119910817 ) Failure to condemn such wanton destruction of these vehicles and businesses as well as the threats made against Tesla owners could be interpreted as silent assent to and tacit agreement with these domestic terrorists.

Having thus cleared away the pungently malodorous detritus of this column, I am happy to report the presence of not one but two ponies. The first is your critique of the mainline news media. You write “Media drives competitiveness for advertising revenue.” In this you are correct but that is only a small part of the problems confronting the news media and its continuing loss of credibility. I would also point your attention to the increasing trend to treat news as entertainment with its concomitant emphasis on television ratings rather than solid and factual journalism. The second problem is the utter destruction of the “Wall of Separation” between “hard news” and “opinion.” No longer content with the Sergeant Joe Friday school of journalism (“Just the facts, ma’am”) today’s journalists have become unabashed cheerleaders for one political party or one ideology. Afterall, this was the same crowd that kept reassuring us for years that the desiccated husk of our former president was the paragon of health and mental acuity when he actually belonged in an Alzheimer’s pod. (Credible sources: https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2024/12/02/most-americans-continue-to-say-media-scrutiny-keeps-politicians-from-doing-things-they-shouldnt/ and https://knightfoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/KnightFoundation_AccuracyandBias_Report_FINAL.pdf )

The second pony in the stables is your critique of the Democrat Party when you write that the DNC “has been a failure at campaigning for decades” to which I would add the Democrats have also been an abysmal failure at governance as well both at the National and State levels. I do believe this is the first time in over a decade that I can remember you criticizing Democrats, an occurrence that almost gave me the vapors I was so shocked. However, as with your critique of the Media this is only part of the story. What is missing is a cogent discussion of the monumental and tectonic shift in political allegiances occurring today that has not been seen in this country since the days of Andrew Jackson when he shattered the 40-year Virginia-Massachusetts stranglehold on the Presidency in 1828. The two major political parties have essentially switched their public personas: the Democrats are no longer the party of “the little guy” but are in thrall with the urban elites and the ultra-rich; the GOP has shed its “country club Republican” image and has become the party of working-class Americans and racial minorities.

As validation of this assertion, I would point you to the recently published (Credible Source: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/18/opinion/ezra-klein-podcast-david-shor.html ) article in The New York Times discussing the analysis conducted by Blue Rose Research, a Democratic Party-linked research and data firm that is a project of Open Labs, a for-profit research firm connected to Future Forward USA Action, a super PAC that was designated as the main super PAC supporting the re-election of President Joe Biden and later the election campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris following Biden’s withdrawal from the race. In summary, they concluded “Democrats are losing working-class voters. They’re seeing their margins among nonwhite voters erode and vanish. They’re losing young voters. Something is wrong in the Democratic Party.” Failure of party leadership is to blame, yes, but the failures run much deeper and are far more systemic than just that issue. Hopefully one will see you applying your superb analytical skills to this problem set as well in the near future.

Overall I would say this is one of your more cogent articles, minus the distracting visuals, of course.
