TAT readers,
This is another short piece. I just had to say something about the travesty we witnessed today, by the most corrupt, insurrectionist and cruel Political Party, to ever operate in our once honorable nation. All week, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying my daughter and her spouse’s visit, but they head home tomorrow. Then, I will be back on schedule.
I am not surprised that this bill passed, but am still digesting how so many friends and family, could have supported this far-right, violent extremist Republican Party. On a personal level, I have spent well over a decade attempting to educate enough of them to make a difference. Apparently, these close voters, no longer care for us nor our republic. I never dreamed in my youth, that these people could be so cruel to truth tellers and our nation’s middle and lower classes. They are and today is the proof.
They have supported this ad nauseum since 2015 but today for me, was my breaking point. What I mean by this can be found in the words I penned to everyone on my FB account, and suspect that many of my readers may well identify with these thoughts too. They are shared them below.
“If you voted for the trump GOP, you voted for cruelty and second class citizenship. Every single Republican in Congress and the oligarchs running our government, are responsible, as are those voters who spent a decade plus, running away from truth, in order to support what we are witnessing.
The GOP politicians are no longer forgivable after today. On a personal note, I will determine on a case by case basis, regarding family and friends, who isn't, but it won't happen overnight. The passage of this bill, is the breaking point in American society, that I and the experts in national security that are worth listening to, have warned about since 2015.
The line is now crossed. If you know me, and you voted for this cruelty, dishonesty, open, ever-expanding corruption and an alliance with our adversaries, I am no longer willing to listen to your excuses. The only thing that I want to hear from any of you for the time being, is an apology and a commitment to restoring our constitutional republic. In the event that is not forthcoming, I simply do not wish to hear from these people at the moment. I need to catch my breath after watching people I love and care for, impose cruelty and deep poverty onto the least fortunate.
The ball is in your court. Don't come crying to honest Americans for help when these changes run you, your families and your friends over. For some of you, it will take a year or so. But it will come.
There is zero conservatism left in the Republican Party. In my line of work regarding counterterrorism, the maga GOP, easily meets the definition of a violent, far-right extremist movement. Like our government used to do, "I don't negotiate with terrorists."
If you voted for this cruelty and payday for oligarchs at the expense of the least fortunate, your religion and patriotic credentials, are now moot. Christians do not behave like the Republican Party. Patriots don't sell out the constitution. I did not do this to you. You did it yourself.
Just like in 1861, America went to war with itself, brother vs. brother, neighbor versus neighbor and every single Republican voter voted for the same ideology: oligarchism, White Christian Nationalism, Political violence and a despot leading the government.
I and countless other truth-tellers have spent a decade of our lives, patiently doing our best to honestly educate anyone and everyone. Not for a party, but for our nation's real principles, not the Bullshit, fake FOX News version either.
Yes, I know this is a very harsh sounding post, but it is also overtly and painfully honest. Your fake victimhood pales in comparison to the hurt you have imposed on friends, family, communities and the nation.
I would be grateful if you Republican voters, would do like your congressmen and senators, and hide for a while. The hurt you've imposed on those of us who loved and cared for you, will not make for polite conversation in the interim.”
Get some rest my friends. We have a lot of work to do to shore up our republic, and protect millions of our fellow citizens, that are now at severe risk. Let’s reflect on the Fourth of July holiday, and reflect on how to take back our republic, based on what it really means.
Onward
Paul
Paul, no truer words have been written or spoken. The US has become a culture of narcissism, false narratives about self-sufficiency and individualism, and makers vs. takers. It is all bullshit. I have been screaming, seemingly into a void, for the last decade or more about the slide toward authoritarianism/facism based in victimhood. I have been called an alarmist at best and gas lit as seeing things that are not there when they have been in front of our face. As a lapsed historian by first training the warning signs have been in front of us.
I write to you, in this 249th US Independence Day from the Canary Islands in Spain where my wife is from. She is both a Spanish and naturalized US citizen. I worry because if some idiot hears her speaking her native language, she will be a target. My daughter from my late first wife, is mixed with her mother being Trinidadian and herself was a naturalized US citizen. She too is a target because of her skin color and being a young female. My parents are in the process for being approved for Medicaid and which they have paid into their entire lives. They are broke. And yet, their applications are being held up under the flimsiest of excuses (in Florida). The cruelty is that absent such assistance to which they have paid into, they literally cannot afford to live.
I am sure there are many more of us who feel the cruelty and danger personally as I have described. Keep fighting the good fight and I will do the same in my corner of the world.
Thank you for all you do, Paul. You give us like minded defenders of the Constitution hope we can right the ship.
Paul, as a fellow patriot, I am writing to wish you a glorious Fourth of July as we celebrate our great nation's Independence Day. As James Madison wrote in the National Gazette in 1792:
“In Europe, charters of liberty have been granted by power. America has set the example … of charters of power granted by liberty. This revolution in the practice of the world, may, with an honest praise, be pronounced the most triumphant epoch of its history, and the most consoling presage of its happiness.”
As Jonathan Turley wrote earlier today, "I truly love this holiday because it ideally celebrates what we have in common, rather than what divides us. For all of our faults and failures, we have triumphed over great evils from without and within. The Framers gave us a system that has withstood the test of time and turmoil. It will withstand these days and we will find a course forward as a nation."
I am reminded anew of these words spoken by one of my heroes, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:
"This will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning: My country, 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrims' pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring.
"And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true. And so let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York. Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania. Let freedom ring from the snow capped Rockies of Colorado. Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California. But not only that, let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia. Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee. Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi. From every mountainside, let freedom ring."
Indeed, let freedom ring this Independence Day proclaiming liberty throughout the land.
With best regards,
Doc B
