The NRA and the GOP are killing our children for power and profit, in the name of fake patriotism
We are all at risk and it will require principled conservatives to reclaim control of their party before things change
Today’s TAT will be on a very touchy subject, yet, we must have it or continue murder countless Americans with preventable gun violence.
If you are far-left (a small percentage of the Democratic Party), far-right (the controlling element of the Republican party) or still support the NRA, your voice is unworthy in this conversation. This topic is complicated, and I will only hit a couple of the primary factors in today’s article, but it MUST continue and especially in all honesty by every American that considers themselves, principled.
Before beginning, here is my now required disclaimer: I despise big-money political parties, I fastidiously research topics relating to our national security, I don’t care about whose feelings get hurt, because I am focused exclusively on reviving the principles of our government, that have kept our founders dreams alive since 1776. I am a truth-teller first and foremost because “spin” won’t keep our nation safe. If we continue to obsess over hyper partisanship, we are guilty of tossing aside our republic. This goes for everyone, me included.
I must here include a simple statement of fact, regarding the political right: In my opinion, there are principled conservatives (many of which have left the party) there are also the MAGA hordes, mobilized as a weapon against our national values and complete with a set of fake, patriotic values and finally, there are those married to their R, political identity that refuse to employ their own common-sense. Obsessing over guns, is but one of those fake values.
America will not be safe until truly principled conservatives banish violent, right-wing extremists from their leadership and control of their party. America, in order to progress and within the guardrails of our constitutional republic must have principled, factual debate. At the moment, the GOP willfully deprives all Americans of this birthright of citizenship. They do this via conspiracy theories and fake patriotic values like an aberrant form of Christianity called Christo-Nationalism, Guns and Trump. Today’s, MAGA controlled GOP, is more interested in made up culture wars and gender issues than the senseless murder of our children.
Today… it is about the fake patriotism of guns. Please tolerate my frustration and anger, as I work through this article. It’s only since the scorched earth politics of Newt Gingrich, made exponentially worse by the Tea Party/ MAGA crowd, that America has succumbed to the made-up, fake patriotism of waving guns around like it’s the Stars and Stripes.
First and foremost, deaths of children from preventable causes like guns, triggers my soul and its natural inclinations towards protecting the innocent. This inclination has been part of my life since I can recall and originally due to being protective of my only sibling, my slightly older brother who passed away young, from horrific genetic disabilities. Being raised in a family of teachers meant putting children first and even among the other side of my family who worked in a variety of other fields, family came first.
All across America, parents simply want to protect their children. I was raised with this as part of my family’s identity. Protecting my dozens of cousins, by aunts and uncles, is a family tradition on both sides. Raising my own children merely reinforced this protective instinct and now with grandchildren being raised by amazing parents, this family tradition is safe. All children deserve be protected and taught to be responsible adults or… we end up where we are now, where lives are bartered for more political power by corrupt influencers like the NRA and GOP, under MAGA control.
I could toss out countless facts from the best sources but the GOP extremists who impose these gun related deaths on all Americans, don’t care about facts, science, mental health etc. They only care about their own profit-seeking, political power. I am a believer in our constitution and legally own guns myself, so it’s not about ownership, it’s about irresponsible, immoral ownership and weapon types. Were it up to the GOP, raking in the bucks from the traitorous NRA, some of which is Russian, there would be zero limitations. And this is why America is the only nation of its peers, that kills our children by firearms in the thousands.
We live in beautiful San Antonio, and we love it. What we absolutely despise is that the state’s only controlling party for the past 28 years is the GOP, which has turned our state into one dominated by conspiracy theories spewing, anti-American, RWE, right-wing extremists. Gov. Greg Abbott and his indicted felon AG, Ken Paxton and the GOP dominated legislature, not only refuse to lift a finger to stem the flow of illicit weapons to all manner of public threats, but as always will look to expand gun rights. They told the Uvalde parents that they would do nothing. Ted Cruz said the same. My congressman, Tony Gonzalez, who also is Uvalde’s congressman, first said the same as the governor, but under mounting public pressure, eventually voted for some limited improvements in background checks. The GOP censured him for doing so. The only saying that truly applies here is, “you just can’t make this stuff up.”
Over 2/3 of American voters want more from Congress but with Speaker McCarthy now in charge of the House by a slim margin and dominated by the MAGA horde, this is not possible. American lives are being held hostage by the GOP. I cannot make this any simpler.
I have seen the ravages of war first-hand, and the worst part is always, what happens to children. There is no excuse for this to be such a serious threat to US children. I live about an hour from Uvalde and the same from Sutherland Springs. Both of these tragedies were preventable. Texas made matters more dangerous after both these events by expanding gun rights and ignoring the wishes of voters.
The question for me and really, the only one that matters regarding the lives of our fellow citizens and children is, when will voters put their children’s lives over their political identity and fake patriotism? No one but a higher power can put a complete stop to violence of any nature, but voters can minimize the risk by voting for anyone, regardless of party, that isn’t endangering our children’s lives for their own selfish partisanship.
