US adventurism in Venezuela, is only the first brazen step in the new "Donroe Doctrine"
Cuba, Canada, Panama, Brazil, Greenland, Argentina etc., should be very worried
TAT readers,
Today’s essay discusses Friday night’s act of war against Venezuela by the US Government. Most credible news sources are reporting on every aspect of the attack, kidnapping and aftermath, so I won’t put a lot of time into rehashing what has already been publicly and credibly reported. My focus will be about where Venezuela fits into the grand strategy of forming the “new world order,/ NWO” that Putin spoke of in his congratulatory remarks to Trump, after his 2024 election win. Always remember, events make a lot more sense if you can see how they fit into the bigger picture. In the case of what has just occurred in Venezuela, it’s the bigger picture that should frighten us all.
My persistent assessment of the post Cold War geo-strategic realignment, has given me some valuable insights into where Trump’s foreign policy is going. America must pull in the opposite direction if we are to remain citizens of a free republic, in a non-dystopian world.
First the facts: the US government attacked a sovereign nation, removed its leader and has declared that we will now run Venezuela. This is called occupation and the last couple of times we tried this, it ended badly. Did I miss that elusive and requisite Declaration of War from Congress? I’m pretty sure I would have seen something that big in my news feed! At this moment it is also quite clear that we started this war with Venezuela, with the full intention of giving US oil supermajors control over Venezuelan fossil fuel resources. Yes, we just allowed a sitting president to start a war, occupy a nation, steal its resources and then dictate his terms to the Venezuelan people. I guess that POTUS doesn’t really want that Nobel Peace Prize after all. Okay, I confess to a bit of satire in my comments.
If we the people allow these types of actions to stand without challenge, we will have tacitly signaled our reluctance hold them accountable for what comes next. And there is a grand-strategy for what comes next, and it’s been hiding in plain site the whole time. By this I mean that yes, there is an overall strategy for global realignment under a limited sovereignty system for all nations other than a small handful of primary sovereign nations like Russia, the US, China and in a yet undetermined role, India. These have full sovereignty rights over themselves and those within their sphere of influence. US, Russian and Chinese spheres will run in a similar fashion to ancient Chinese tributary systems of empire.
The formation of this alliance and strategy have been hinted at and incrementally included in policy papers, national strategies, commercial agreements etc., for years. All have led to this point, where under Trump, the US is leading the charge in establishing this “new world order” of authoritarian spheres of influence, in a multi-polar world. We once had a similar system, called Feudalism.
“The concept of a multipolar oligarchy leads to the Russian concept that true sovereignty is possessed by only a few great powers; the sovereignty of states it views as dependent on great powers is limited. The territory of true sovereigns and those states under Russian protection is sacrosanct and can be defended by force; for the others, it is impermissible to regain territory that is “in dispute” by force.” - Russia at the United Nations: Law, Sovereignty, and Legitimacy - Carnegie Endowment for International Peace - Philip Remler - Published on January 22, 2020
The US, Russian and Chinese triumvirate of power mongering leaders, are carving up the globe into the aforementioned, “spheres of influence,” which are also largely regional in nature. For example, the US in this arrangement dominates everything in the Western Hemisphere, Russia gets Europe including Turkey while that China essentially gets all of Asia plus Iran. At this time, I see Africa still in play between Russia, China and on a lesser scale, India. The only other area with special privileges will likely be the Arab Gulf, oil-states, which will play a role not dissimilar from Switzerland’s traditional “neutrality.”
The US portion of the New World Order, is the “Donroe Doctrine,” whose title is a play on the term, Monroe Doctrine, the protectionist US foreign policy strategy for the western hemisphere.
"The Monroe Doctrine is the best known U.S. policy toward the Western Hemisphere. Buried in a routine annual message delivered to Congress by President James Monroe in December 1823, the doctrine warns European nations that the United States would not tolerate further colonization or puppet monarchs. The doctrine was conceived to meet major concerns of the moment, but it soon became a watchword of U.S. policy in the Western Hemisphere." - Monroe Doctrine (1823) - National Archives
This weekend’s activities in Venezuela are indicative of our administration transitioning the US, Russian and Chinese global realignment strategy from the conceptual phase to the operational phase. There have been lesser activities pointing to this strategy, going as far back as Trump’s first term. Trump and the GOP’s sudden distaste for NATO, the GOP’s recurring actions to deprive Ukraine of funding, weapons and intelligence support, their still constant denials of Russian interference in our elections and the constant symmetry in messaging between Russian and Republican mouthpieces. In fact, the recently released NSS/ National Security Strategy is basically a sellout of Europe and NATO while acknowledging that Russia and China can enforce there interests in their role as a regional powers.
As we can see from the earliest days of this administration, they have been obsessive about, Greenland, Canada, Panama, Argentina, Venezuela, Cuba and Brazil. To a lesser degree, other central and south America nations as well. As crazy as these comments seemed to most Americans at the time, they are not wild fantasies if you understand where this administration is going and why. There are a couple of other nations that may soon become the next victim of US aggression and this further destabilizes the region. Thinly veiled threats in statements by Trump and Rubio yesterday, pointed directly at Greenland and Cuba. The ride gets bumpier from here.
As it pertains to US national security, we have a few centuries of history with our neighbors to the south and north, that are still full of unresolved roadblocks to cohesion. Our missteps in the Caribbean, Central and South America are in some cases, legendary. Any attempt by the US to impose a paternal-like relationship onto the rest of the hemisphere, will not end well for anyone. With the demonstrated proclivity of this administration to wield brawn, not brains, I fear more, not less conflict. For a guy chasing a Nobel Peace Prize, he sure seems to be going in the opposite direction.
Summary
Three days into our occupation of Venezuela, and there is still no sign of a plan to govern, share governance, dictate policy, etc. etc. etc. It doesn’t seem to matter though, because both the conqueror and the conquered in the case of Venezuela, have no idea what is going on now or at any time afterwards. All I know for certain is that more violence and thuggery follows. It has nothing to do with Maduro and his wife being worthless and cruel human beings, but rather or not whether the US will operate legally or morally. This is also the question on the lips of every decent nation on the planet.
Like it or not, being a decades-long unilateral superpower, required that we lead on the western values our constitution embodies. We did a very good job for a few decades, before succumbing to the greed of the politically purchased. With enough effort, we can restore our nation to its former best traits. When we do, there will be no longer be room, for those committed to what we’ve experienced from Republicans, in the Trump era.
The lesson that we must learn during these sudden, earth-shattering events in our history, is that we can and must multi-task. Part of that multi-tasking is easier when you can see the big picture. I hope today’s essay helps everyone see the big picture and where the US fits into it. Venezuelan adventurism, is but one tiny piece of that big picture, but helps us see the depth of commitment that the administration has to their, “Donroe Doctrine.”
Personally and professionally, I see the Venezuelan adventurism frightening on multiple levels. The willingness to use our military in direct support to the least trustworthy of American oligarchy, the big oil supermajors and the willingness to do it without any “what comes next” planning, is beyond nuts. The utter disregard for international or US law while that SCOTUS enables such activity, was never what I could have foreseen for “our nation of laws.” The lack of concern for what happens to the impoverished people of Venezuela now without a government, while that American big oil robs them blind, is unconscionable. When it comes to being a thug, Trump makes Maduro look like an amateur.
The very last thing I will say this evening, is that there is also a “Wag the Dog” quality to this Venezuelan adventurism over the weekend. The administration may desire a diversion from all things Epstein Files but… we must continue to demand why the Republican Party and administration are protecting pedophiles. Remember, the more cornered the administration and GOP become, the more diversions will come our way. We may want to buckle up for 2026!
2026 is the year we restore our republic.
Onward,
Paul
