When we blame countries and terrorist groups for war, don’t forget to blame corporations and Wall Street too!
Those who put corporate greed over humanity, enable Putin’s, Xi’s, Modi’s, Iranian, Hamas and Hezbollah thugs
Happy Saturday TAT readers,
A very busy end of the week, kept me from my keyboard but I want to share some thoughts from two of my posts, on LinkedIn. They are of vital importance, not just regarding Putin’s genocidal invasion of Ukraine or Israel’s self defense against the Iranian trained, supplied and advised, barbaric butchers called Hamas. They matter to the entire global security environment.
Today’s piece grew out of reading this article from CNBC about the state of the globe’s instability and how that big-league CEO’s are sweating things. The one thing that all media refuses to cover is that many of these huge, multi-national corporations are part of the reason for global instability.
Yes, the reporter is accurate regarding the concerns of corporate leadership's concerns about the global security environment and are looking to, protect themselves/ profits.
I am in significant agreement with the thinking of this piece but will take it one step further.
Most global commercial entities, corporate or otherwise must also be seen as part of the reasons for our current threat environment. I will be very blunt here:
More than any political leader, administration, nation or trade alliance, it is the all-consuming greed of these global corporations that have done the most to enable those who threaten the world now. Putin, Xi, Iran, Modi, Erdogan, The Gulf States, especially the Saudis, leadership in the new, ever-expanding BRICS bloc, yes, the former administration of our own, 91 times indicted felon, Trump, etc., gave away billions of our hard-earned tax dollars to elite wealth individuals and corporations, are part of this disgrace.
In their salacious pursuit of profits, it is they, who have put dollars into the coffers of genocidal lunatics like Putin, Xi, the Junta in Myanmar and brutal, authoritarians all over the world. They bought influence for market access, slave wages to their new manufacturing friends and willfully overlooked the rights of billions around the world.
Many I have mentioned contributed to the very terrorism of wars that I have been an all too often, participant of and even Hamas of recent barbarism. Places like Qatar and Turkey only scratch the surface of the enablers. US and Global oil industries are guilty as well, maybe more so. They allow OPEC to openly support Putin's war and increase their profits by production cuts. No doubt that oil revenue will be another record-setting profitable quarter while they operate in support of thugs like Putin... still. Iran’s oil profits are the same. Iran provides Putin significant support and pretty much are the reason, that Hamas and Hezbollah continue to be the most abusive of terrorist movements, including against their own people.
Please see this brand-new report on Hamas funding sources and if you have any level of ethics above the financiers of terror, it will anger you. I guarantee this.
Yale University has a regularly updated report on which businesses still are doing business and providing support to Putin in Russia. Their most recent update to this exhaustive list, is new as of yesterday. This exhaustive database is searchable, including by country. What you will find should also anger you. Please see this list:
Finally, don't even get me started on media coverage of the war in Gaza. Even my most credible sources like Reuters BBC News The Associated Press and USA Today, have a lot to apologize for. It's not that they overtly "lie" but they lie by omission and failing miserably to report "in context."
Like the war in Gaza and Ukraine, those to blame are without a shred of morality and now, the list should include corporations who have as their only "business ethic," unabated greed.
I won’t speak for other nations around the world but US business ethics, rarely exist in our largest, most profitable corporate entities. Our congress enables these same corporations with tax breaks that keep the middle class paying the lion’s share of the US tax burden. I am personally disgusted that our nation, founded on extraordinary principles now puts profits that support terrorism, genocide and authoritarianism, over principles, and are blessed by those elected to maintain those principles.
Morality starts at home and should be guaranteed by moral choices at our ballot boxes. Our current activist SCOTUS is also guilty, via their blind eye towards corporate profiteering, ensconced in the now infamous, Citizens United debacle.
Finally, putting party over country is the sole responsibility of voters. In our current nation, the MAGA controlled GOP are the sellouts but all parties, at some point in US history have done the same, albeit at lesser levels. If Americans continue putting partisan politics over our founding principles, there will shortly be no more of our republic.
There is plenty of blame to go around but right now, demanding your elected congressmen and senators grow a moral spine, that reins in these unprincipled corporations, is job number one for voters and Congress.
All my best for your weekend,
Paul
