To the observation that the "118th Congress is on track to become one of the least productive in US history" there are many who would ask "And that is such a bad thing?" Inactivity by the Congress is the best proof yet that less is more. It was, after all, Mark Twain who made the observation that "No man's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session."
I would not ask the question as you suggested. Today’s GOP runs around screaming about dysfunction and yet, has done absolutely nothing to fix their perceived failures. They refuse to support our heroic allies against our most dangerous foe, a genocidal Putin. They even refuse to invest in the border that they have dishonestly lied about since their orange God was chased out of office by all Americans weary of his treason, corruption and dishonesty.
No my friend, doing nothing when our nation and much of the world is overtly threatened by fascism backing oligarchy is not an option, especially for those of us who still believe in democracy.
It would appear dysfunction is in the eye of the beholder. Where some see a GOP failure to support Ukraine others see a brilliant foreign policy gambit to finally force NATO's effete European dilettantes to man up and actively support Kiev with weapons and ammunition. Where some see GOP failures to fix perceived problems at home others see a successful slow rolling of the Jill Biden regime's Neo-Bolshevik, anti-American domestic policies. It all depends on one's perspective.
We must agree to disagree regarding contributions to Ukraine. The facts refute all that you've indicated. Your "Bolshevik" comment is also laughable and speaks more to right-wing, mythological ideology.
Europe's commitments to Ukraine, significantly outweigh ours. As a whole, the US, prior to Speaker Johnson's sellout and subservience to a pro-Putin, 91 time indicted felon, which includes espionage charges, was the largest donor. Now... the GOP is murdering our allies in Ukraine, who are fighting and dying for the entire free world. Yes, because their dear leader said to. They will not fund the border, Ukraine, the budget and far more. They are too focused on political stunts that exclusively support Putin, oligarchy, Christian Nationalism and the destruction of our constitution. Yes, I not only have these facts, but have shared them often, in detail and which include those pesky things called facts and credible sources. These are things quite unfamiliar to your responses.
I will always listen to your opinions but being born in the "show me state" I also won't accept opinions without the credible sources required to support them convincingly.
Cheers, and yes, we need to whittle down a date for breakfast. It's been a tough couple of weeks timewise, and I got far off schedule.
As do I enjoy reading your opinions -- I consider them to be window into the current thinking of the DNC and hence invaluable.
However, in moving from opinions to facts, please provide the date when the United States Senate ratified a mutual defense treaty between the US and Ukraine. I seem to have missed that factoid. Since allies equate with alliances and alliances equate with treaties for mutual support and benefit, one would assume that if Ukraine is our ally then we have a Senate-ratified treaty on the books attesting to that fact. Unless, of course, you are implying that we have NATO allies on the ground in Ukraine. But so far, the only NATO member seriously considering such an option are the French which may or may not be a benefit to Kiev. This seems just a bit confusing.
Looking ahead for a date for breakfast at Maddy Lane's, this coming week is not a good option -- too many events already scheduled. How does Tuesday, 23 April, sound for you?
Hi Paul,

Inactivity by the Congress is the best proof yet that less is more. It was, after all, Mark Twain who made the observation that "No man's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session."
