Hi Paul,

Once again you have written an interesting if totally disingenuous article lacking in evidence but abounding in dyspeptic opinion. To claim that the United States has become "a global pariah" on a scale with "the former Soviet Union" is quite a stretch even by your standards. And stooping to quote the worst president in the 20th century, Jimmy Carter, to prove your point hardly embellishes your thesis. I find it nothing short of amazing that you would appear to be satisfied with the mediocre performances of a Jimmy Carter or, more recently, Joe "Auto-Pen" Biden who made our country an international laughing stock rather than actively supporting the efforts of the current Trump administration to restore America to its rightful position of respected leadership in the world. I would truly wish to be proven wrong in my assessment but so far the evidence is lacking.

My friend,

Thank you for your entertaining screed, and I expected no less. To satisfy other readers, here's what I propose: Both of us must submit our evidence from credible sources, that speaks to whether you, or I am correct regarding the global opinion of this fascist administration.

Also and for the record... you managed to weave a remarkable number of far-right and unsubstantiated tropes into one normal sized paragraph. Of course I disagree with them but I do wish to acknowledge your accomplishment.

Cheers

Hi Paul,

Thank you for a reasoned and polite, if inaccurate, appraisal of my thoughtful comments to your recent post. You do not realize how exceedingly rare it is becoming for persons to disagree agreeably on social media. I find your comments delightfully refreshing in that regard.

While I consider your offer to debate by exchanging credible sources intriguing, I must politely decline this offer. The historical record is replete with examples of your cavalierly rejecting any credibly sourced and researched documentation that challenges your thesis du jour as being irrelevant or immaterial. This being the established precedent, I shall politely refuse to play Charlie Brown to your Lucy and the football.

I am also amused that you describe my well-reasoned discourse as "a remarkable number of far-right and unsubstantiated tropes." Based on that assessment, may one therefore assume that anyone who expresses a love of country and who criticizes inept and incompetent Democrat political hacks is a far-right zealot? I am truly curious as to how you define your terms.

Discourse without ever producing credible sources is not “thoughtful commentary, it is as you well know… propaganda. Looking forward to breakfast next week. For others reading this, Dr. Buffington is a dear friend. We don’t agree on anything that most believe to be political. Still, our ongoing social media tussles show that even in this political environment, friendships can endure without open warfare.

Doc as he goes by, is a talented analyst who in my opinion, checks his professional skills at door whenever it comes to the Republican Party. He no doubt thinks the same of my views. In social media though, I provide facts from credible sources. Doc does not. Our social media battles will no doubt continue, but over a shared meal, we are friends.
