No, JD Vance is not reasonable nor open-minded, as he attempted to con viewers with, during last night's debate.
TAT readers, I won’t write a long essay today but wanted to leave all of you with my most pressing takeaway, from last night’s VP debate. JD Vance attempted to mislead viewers as to who he really is. Throughout the debate, Vance, whose appeal has been sliding precipitously since his infamous “eating dogs and cats in Springfield, Ohio comments,” did his best to sound reasonable and open-minded. He is nothing of the sort. He is simply put, just another Republican who has sold his soul to Trump, Putin and MAGA’s right-wing extremist ideology and insatiable thirst for power, by any means possible.
The following are a few of the facts that Vance glossed over last evening:
Most TAT readers know that I was in Springfield for my 50th anniversary of my high school class, at the time of the controversy over Vance and Trump’s overtly dishonest, racist and hateful accusations about Haitian temporary residents of Springfield. Every local I spoke with were humiliated, embarrassed and ashamed of both Trump and Vance. This was true regardless of which party they aligned themselves with. Vance continued on with his hateful, dishonest comments for another week or two afterwards.
It just so happened that I was in Springfield just a couple of days after, the great, “Haitians eating pets” fiasco by Trump and JD Vance, who is also from near Springfield. Talking with locals in both Springfield and Urbana about their unwanted Trumpian notoriety, was beyond humiliating for them. Without exception, every person I ran into was humiliated, embarrassed by and scornful of Trump and Vance’s insanely dishonest conspiracy theories regarding local pets. There is more good news on the Trump/ Vance issue later, or maybe even tomorrow, time-permitting. For those interested, the local paper, The Springfield News-Sun has run an exhaustive and excellent series of articles, explaining the full spectrum of issues surrounding the tragically laughable conspiracy theories. - TAT essay - Cobaugh - 22 September 2024
Vance wrote the forward to Project 2025, the un-American, anti-constitutional, Christian Nationalist attempt to overthrow our constitutional republic.
Vance has been fact-checked by Pulitzer prize winning source, PolitiFact, 127 times. The graphic below shows just how dedicated he is to lying.
Some of his most notable lies were repeated in last night’s debate. Below are the links and the topic.
PolitiFact | Vance misleads: Trump tried to take the Affordable Care Act down, not build upon it
PolitiFact | GOP Senate hopeful JD Vance paid political adviser to run nonprofit that did little to fight opioids
PolitiFact | Ohio’s JD Vance wants to defund a federal law enforcement agency, but not all police departments
To these examples above, I would also recommend reading the two articles below, from most prestigious publications.

One last fact-check comes from VP Kamala Harris, and it is a topic that both Trump and Vance lie about ad nauseum: Energy production, especially oil/ fossil fuels":
My friends and family, as I noted at the beginning, this is a very short TAT essay but it became a “must-write” after JD Vance’s slick and ultimately dishonest performance last night. Vance, like Trump is a “say-anything, do-anything,” regardless of morality, to get what they want. In both cases, it is the ultimate conversion of our constitutional republic into an autocracy, defined as in Monday’s essay, The Four Horsemen of the MAGA Apocalypse:

Finally, and as I often say at the end of these essays, we the people must do the job of protecting our republic. As our founders fully understood, by their own sacrifices, democracy is a team sport and in which every citizen not only has rights, but responsibilities. No one must go to war to save our republic these days, and voting is the primary tool of fully restoring our prestigious national values, to their highest and intended level.
Voting requires truth and understanding of candidates and issues from credible sources. Trump’s Yellow Journalism era or fake news era must come to a close, or even voting will not be enough. This is the primary reason that I write these essays. I believe in our founding values and the responsibility of good citizenship, as expressed by our founding principles. Neither Trump, Vance or MAGA sycophants abide by these basic and traditional American values. Neither should either of them represent decent Americans… ever again!
My best for the rest of your week,
Paul
Obviously, my friend, we were watching two very different debates. The overall consensus by the national news media is that last night's debate was a civil and thoughtful conversation between two politicians who respected each other, who identified issues of common concern and agreed to disagree on proposed solutions. The evening posed an example of how conversations on policies and political issues should be handled in this country and would serve as a useful counterpoint to the reckless and slanderous name calling that dominates so much of social media and public discourse today. What the nation saw on display last night was Midwest courtesy and decorum from Ohio and Minnesota.
