The GOP in the House of Representatives... Do they actually own a spine, let alone a moral one?
Warning... mini rant follows
Well TAT readers, today is a deviation from my usual writing schedule but the news, that the House of Representatives is sending the DHS Secretary, Mayorkas’ impeachment inquiry to the Senate for trial, is a new low in the integrity of the House of Representatives and requires commentary.
The House is now led by Speaker Mike Johnson, the subservient traitor, to his boss traitor, Donald Trump who has been at the heart of murdering our allies in Ukraine. This also means that by denying funding to Ukraine, they are also failing to vote on the Republican led Border package agreed to weeks and weeks ago, in the Senate. Johnson refuses to even consider it in the House. Little do they care that under the current administration, the Southern Border has a larger Federal presence than any other time that I can find, in the annals of American history.
Yes, this is a mini rant.
My own Congressman, Tony Gonzalez of Texas #23, is one of these gutless wonders who is part of the reason for one of the least productive Congresses in American history. Like his colleagues, Tony likes to play the good guy on TV, but those of who can read, are so disgusted with his Trumpish dishonesty, that we are fed up. Now, he’s not even far enough to the right to satisfy our Texas Taliban governor, Greg Abbott who was behind “primarying” any R politician who didn’t support his agenda, most significantly, the unconstitutional school vouchers.
Like me, Tony is a retired military man. The difference is staggering. I keep my oath, to protect and defend the constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic, and Tony, like the other 71 Republican Veterans in Congress, never try as long as Trump and MAGA want something else.
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God. - The US Senate oath of office, also used by the House or Representatives
Tony, like every single Republican in the House, voted without a shred of evidence to impeach the president too. WTH? Now, while the GOP fiddles and heads off on politically motivated goose-chases, democracy burns. Look, I don’t back any political party but when the House is on fire, pun intended, we all must stand up and demand ethical work from the overpaid, underperforming House of Representatives.

Oh yes, and for the record, the elected members of Congress swear nearly the same oath that military members do. Every single Republican in the House violates their oaths regularly, in the Trump era. This isn’t politics, it is a quiet (sometimes not, like January 6th) attempt to undermine and extinguish the light of our constitution.
Well, that is the end of this mini rant. If you are also plagued with a GOP elected official, it is time to stop pretending this madness is political. If the GOP retains either House of Congress, they will legislate Christian Nationalism, isolationism and Putin support into our laws, unconstitutional or not. I wish that I could say that this is hyperbole, but I live in TX, where this is already occurring and more acutely, by the week.
My best for your week and I will try and save myself from more such mini rants, unless desperately necessary. Truth matters and truthful integrity along with a moral spine… matters more.
Let’s make American democracy work like it should… again.
